About the Artist

Armandina’s life traces a path as intricate and precise as the lines she engraved, shaped first by her childhood in Mexico and then refined through rigorous study in Europe, in countries such as
Italy and England, where she absorbed the depth of classical art and the discipline of technical mastery. Her talent and tenacity carried her to professional posts in Switzerland and ultimately to the
United States, where she joined the American Bank Note Company, stepping into a world where only the most exacting eyes and hands could safeguard the beauty and security of global currency.
While living in the United States, she shared her knowledge with remarkable generosity, teaching classes for UCLA graduates and studying at the American Film Institute, weaving together visual
storytelling and the unforgiving precision of security engraving into a singular artistic voice uniquely her own.

Through this rare fusion of imagination and discipline, Armandina became a quiet architect of everyday history, creating U.S. stock certificates and stamps, contributing to banknotes for numerous
countries, sculpting the Visa dove that rests unnoticed in most wallets, and engraving portraits of some of the most famous figures to ever live. Her achievements culminated in a milestone that
only her determination could reach: becoming the first female Master Banknote Engraver in the United States, entrusted with the faces, emblems, and symbols that nations use to express trust,
value, and identity, and proving through every plate and vignette that her artistry was not just exceptional but truly singular.
